Marmaton WRAPS

What is WRAPS?

A Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy, or WRAPS, is a process where local citizens have the opportunity to identify watershed needs, and with guidance and technical assisstance, develop and take action on a plan to address those needs.

Marmaton WRAPS is sponsored by the Marmaton Joint Watershed District #102.

WRAPS Process

The WRAPS Process involves four phases: Development, Assessment, Planning, and Implementation.

Development Phase Objectives

Provide information and education.
Identify stakeholders.
Determine stakeholders' interest and willingness to participate in WRAPS.
Compile and organize known watershed information.

Begin identifying stakeholder concerns and issues.
Organize watershed leadership team.
Secure commitments to participate in WRAPS.
Prepare a Development Project Report.

Assessment Phase Objectives

Provide information and education.
Establish assessment criteria.
Perform a watershed inventory.

Identify needs and opportunities.
Develop watershed models.
Prepare a Watershed Assessment Project Report.

Planning Phase Objectives

Provide information and education to watershed stakeholders.
Consult stakeholders in developing an action plan.
Develop watershed restoration and protection goals.
Identify actions to achieve goals.

Test watershed management scenarios against goals.
Select a watershed management scenario.
Secure commitments for and endorsements for the plan.
Prepare a watershed action plan.

Implementation Phase Objectives

Provide information and education.
Secure human, financial, and technical resources.
Administer resources and execute the actions set out by the action plan.

Evaluate process.
Revise and update the watershed action plan as needed.
